FAQ

  • Is Smudge Indigenous Owned?
Yes, the company has an indigenous owner, along with business partners.
  • How does the Smoke-Infusion Candle work?
Our Smoke-Infusion Candle is designed specifically for smudging. Smudging is a cultural ceremony practiced by a wide range of Indigenous people in Canada and around the world. Smudging is for cleansing the soul of negative thoughts of a person or place, and is used to connect us with our spirit. This ceremony contains many elements - a shell representing water, four sacred medicines (cedar, sage, sweetgrass, tobacco) which represent gifts from Mother Earth, the fire from lighting these medicines, and smoke from the fire representing air. During a smudging, plant leaves are lit and the flames are gently blown out. The smoke, which heals the mind, heart and body, is wafted over the person. This candle is designed to use for smudging, as it contains the four medicines, all of which have been blessed (please refer to the blessing card included with your candle). Simply light the wood wick and begin your smudging ceremony. As you witness the smoke rising, call forth your intentions, prayers, and visions to attract good spirits and eliminate negative ones. Our Smoke-Infusion candles are made from 100 % soy wax, using genuine essential oils extracted from the four medicines - cedar, sage, sweetgrass, tobacco - as well as enhancing Indigenous fragrances. Our unique hollow cedar candle wicks encase locally sourced sage and/or sweetgrass. These candles are designed to produce more smoke than a traditional candle when blown out.
  • How do Smoke-Infusion Candles differ from regular candles?
Smoke-Infusion Candles, although made within the industry standard safety measures, are incredibly unique, as the wicks are infused with dried sage and sweetgrass. They produce more smoke when blown out.
  • How is Smudge ensuring it is respecting the Indigenous culture with its products and message?
All medicines are locally and ethically sourced. The purpose of our brand is to honor the practices of Indigenous cultures, and allow others to learn from them and respect them.
